KC really wanted to swim, but we ran into a series of issues trying to find a pool long enough for laps. We are staying at some swanky place right near the Santa Monica Civic Center where the show is. It has two pools that are pretty much for dunking. They are both square and about 5 x 5 yards. I can swim 3 strokes per lap. But the concierge indicated that a place down the street would let us use their pool. Turns out that wasn't true. So then we headed up the block to their "sister" hotel. Their pool was also about a 5 x 5 yard dunker and we were flabbergasted that they would send us up there to swim laps. Turns out they had a 2nd pool tucked away upstairs. The kind doorman took us through the maze of hallways to get there. It was a pool that the hotel shares with an apartment complex next door. It was the perfect size for swimming laps. But there were strict hours of 9am-9pm and it was 7:30am.
So we went back towards our hotel, dropped our goggles with the front desk and ran down to the beach. We started out running ON the beach, but it was high tide and so the really hard sand was under water. So we jumped on the bike/run/rollerblade trail that goes all along the waterfront. We ran down to Venice Beach and back. I have no idea how far. But it was already pretty warm and I was breathing hard trying to keep up with KC (who was probably running slow to keep back with me). The best part of the run was coming back to our hotel and as we came up to the door, the valet handed us each a bottle of water. Like I said, it is a swanky hotel.
